Each
Astronomy from the Ground Up workshop participant will receive a
free toolkit to help provide the primary content and delivery focus
for post-workshop visitor engagements back at their institution.
The toolkit contains a set of flexible activities and demonstrations
to help participants engage their visitors in a variety of settings,
including: nature hikes, family workshops, summer or overnight camps,
museum exhibit areas, docent presentations, "star parties,"
community outreach events (such as fairs), and in classrooms.
The
AFGU Toolkit is organized into three key themes which underpin our
understanding of the cosmos:
These
themes will also be used to help shape the structure and content
of the AFGU workshops.
When
you participate in an AFGU workshop, whether onsite or online, you
will receive a kit of most of the materials you will need for over
a dozen hands-on astronomy activities. These materials are intended
to get you started, and are for the most part easy to find and inexpensive
should you need to replenish them in the future. You will also receive
a Terrific Telescopes Kit from the National Optical Astronomy Observatory,
containing lenses, lasers, a UV light, and other durable materials
for optics activities. Contact us at afgu {at} astrosociety.org
for more details.
