the Adler Planetarium

Conference Summary

The ASP's EPO Conference & 119th Annual Meeting took place at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, Chicago, IL September 5-7, 2007. In support of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific's (ASP) mission to increase the understanding and appreciation of astronomy, this national conference will focus on building and supporting a vibrant and connected community of individuals and groups engaged in educational and public outreach (EPO) in the disciplines of astronomy, astrobiology, space, and earth science.

Special events at the Conference included the ASP Annual Awards Banquet, a tour to Yerkes Observatory, and a special open house at the Adler Planetarium.

Join us in 2008 for the ASP's 120th Annual Conference & International Year of Astronomy Symposium to be held in conjunction with the AAS Summer Meeting, June 1-5 in St. Louis, Missouri.

NEW in 2007 - Published Conference Proceedings

This year the ASP will publish the conference proceedings, edited by Catharine D. Garmany and Michael G. Gibbs. This is an opportunity for all accepted workshop and poster presentations to be published in the official ASP conference series (both print and e-access). The cost of the proceedings (both print and e-access) is built into the registration fee for all attendees. Non-attendees may purchase copies/access when it is published though the normal ASP Conference Series process.

Because most presentations at this conference are not given in the traditional "paper presentation" format and are interactive, authors are asked to summarize their interactive session in a way that best provides an overall feel and description of the activity. Sessions that include gathering audience feedback are encouraged to designate an individual to serve as a "reporter," therefore allowing the discussion to be included in the revised manuscript. Both LaTeX and Word documents will be accepted.

Full instructions for authors will be provided to all successful applicants for sessions and posters. All submissions must be received prior to the conference (strict deadline of Tuesday, September 4, 2007).
