Preparing for the International Year of Astronomy: A Hands-on Symposium - Astronomical Society of the Pacific - May 31-June 4, 2008 - St. Louis, Missouri

How to Register for the Meeting

Because the on-line system for registering for the ASP meeting and the workshops is a bit complex, we are also making available a simplified registration form, which you can print, fill out, and fax or mail in to the American Astronomical Society, with your credit card information or check. Instructions are right on the form.

Online registration for ASP members is now available on the online registration page at the AAS meeting site:

1. Click on the AAS meeting link (also repeated below).

2. When you get to the meeting page, click on "Registration" in the menu on the right.

3. This will take you to a page that offers two links under "How To Register" -- one that takes you to "Online Registration" and one that takes you to a "Registration Form." Choose "Online Registration." (If you go to "Registration Form," you will go to a page that provides a registration form that can be printed out and mailed or faxed, but it does not, as of this posting, contain an ASP meeting rate or offer ASP banquet or proceedings choices. The online registration page, on the other hand, does. If you can't register online or don't wish to, contact us and we'll work out a mail/fax arrangement for you until the online form is revised by the AAS.)

4. Once you get to the online registration page, you will need to log in if you haven't already. If you're an AAS member, you can log in as such. If you're not, you can create a nonmember record (if you haven't already as part of the abstract submission process); click on the "sign in" link and follow the instructions. Once you have the necessary login codes and log in, you can then register online.

5. The online registration page includes a number of red-colored functions on the left, organized by date, which you can select. On the right is a "Function Detail" box that you can scroll down to get additional bits of information and costs for each of the red-colored functions. Select a meeting registration category by clicking on the box to the left of the red-colored choice you wish to select. To register for the meeting as an ASP member, select the "120th Annual ASP Meeting Registration" choice. (NOTE -- there is just one meeting you're registering for: the combined AAS meeting/ASP IYA Symposium -- the symposium serving as this year's ASP annual meeting. You can freely attend any part of either. The reason for the distinction is to provide a way for ASP members who are not AAS members to register and receive the AAS member meeting rate.)

6. Once you've selected a registration type, select any other functions you wish to attend or receive. For example, at the bottom of the red list you will find ASP Awards Banquet choices for the ASP Awards Banquet, for which we hope you'll join us. Just above those, you will find a box to check to receive the ASP IYA Symposium Proceedings to be produced immediately following the symposium -- you'll want to have this as an IYA reference, so be sure to select it.

7. Once you've completed your selections, click on the check-out box at the bottom of the red list.

8. You'll go to a "Badge Maintenance" page that allows you to provide your name as you wish it to appear on your meeting badge. Then click on "check-out" on this page.

9. You'll go to the "check-out basket" page where you can review and edit your selections as necessary and provide credit card information. Then click on check-out again to complete the payment/receipt process.

NOTE ON HOTEL RESERVATION; When you reserve a room at the conference hotel (information obtainable from the AAS meeting site), be sure to say that you're attending the AAS meeting. (The ASP events are being conducted within the AAS meeting, and the hotel will not recognize a reference to ASP.)

If you're not already an ASP member, become one today to receive the AAS member rate for the upcoming meeting -- it's a great deal, and you will be supporting an organization whose mission is to advance science literacy through engagement in astronomy, and to work with like-minded individuals and groups to support and achieve mutual goals. You'll get some cool benefits of association besides. Go to our membership page to learn more, to join us and support the cause, and to get the AAS member rate for the conference/symposium.

You can sign up for e-mail updates here.

Registration is not through this site, but through the meeting site of the American Astronomical Society: http://www.aas.org/meetings/aas212/

The meeting will take place at the Renaissance Grand Hotel (weekend workshops) and the St. Louis Convention Center (everything from Sunday evening on).
