Dr. Michael G. Gibbs
Michael Gibbs Memorial Fund Established.
As you will read below, the ASP lost one of its greatest champions in December with the untimely passing of Michael Gibbs, former employee (2005 to 2008), and board member and officer (2009 to 2013).
Following discussion with Michael’s family, and in response to the generous donations received in Michael’s name, the ASP has established the Michael Gibbs Memorial Fund. Donations received thus far, and any donations received in the future, will be equally divided between:
1. An endowed fund in Michael’s name to help ensure the ASP’s sustainability
2. The ASP’s infrastructure program that enables the delivery of science education workshops, trainings, and services
You may make your gift easily and securely online via www.astrosociety.org/support or via regular mail to our San Francisco headquarters located at 390 Ashton Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94112.
It is with profound sadness that the Astronomical Society of the Pacific reports the sudden death of its Board member and secretary, Dr. Michael G. Gibbs on December 10, 2013.
Michael has served as a Board member since 2009, and as the Board secretary since 2010. Prior to that, from 2005 to 2008, Michael was the Society’s Director of Advancement, and was instrumental in reviving and advancing the ASP’s Fund Development effort.
The Society has lost a true friend, and we will miss his intelligence, his guidance, and his quick wit.
