2016 ASP Annual Report
I am pleased to present the ASP Annual Report for 2016, the 127th anniversary of the Society. We accomplished a great deal last year in support of our mission to improve science literacy through the excitement of astronomy.
ASP’s nationally acclaimed programs continue to expand and serve astronomy lovers of all ages, from young children to amateurs and professionals. Our work supports science museums, park rangers, K-12 schools, amateur clubs, and early career astronomy faculty to bring the awe and wonder of astronomy and space science to audiences they reach.
Our work in 2016 included directly contributing to the ASP’s new partnership with the Girl Scouts developing astronomy badges and providing scout leaders with training and support; establishing the new Arthur B.C. Walker II Award given for significant achievement in astronomy by an African American; and convening our 128th Annual Meeting focusing on bringing the amazement of the upcoming August 21, 2017 solar eclipse to underserved youth.
Please consider making a contribution to the ASP today so we can build on last year’s tremendous success and expand our work.
Together we are bringing the excitement of astronomy to a new generation of enthusiasts and professionals. On behalf of the staff and all the audiences we serve, thank you for your support of the ASP.
